Faculty Profile
Charles Dhanaraj Associate Professor of Management
"The classroom is a channel to communication business research, as well as a reservoir to generate interesteing and exciting research questions.
I believe students pursuing studies in research universities like Indiana University, and more specifically the Kelley School of Business, have a competitive edge
because they are exposed to and learn emerging business concepts."
Charles Dhanaraj's decision to join the Kelley faculty in 1999 was made easier by the significant number of professors at the school with an interest in his two primary fields of study - international business and alliance management. Today, Dhanaraj's research on international alliances combines three main themes - globalization, innovation and collaboration. More specifically, his research involves the study of non-equity alliances and several other forms of collaborative activity in the international arena, including how organizations learn new competencies from their partners.
Prior to coming to Kelley, Dhanaraj was an instructor at the Richard Ivey School of Business and a lecturer at Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore. His practical experience includes positions as a robotics engineer at Memorial University of Newfoundland and as an executive assistant to the managing director and technical assistant to the vice president at Kaveri Engineering Industries, Ltd. (India) and Tata Robins Fraser, Ltd., respectively.
In addition to his teaching and research work at Kelley, Dhanaraj also provides consulting services for companies worldwide, including ABB Robotics in Canada, IPC Corporation in Singapore and Samsung Electronics in Korea. The management professor is also affiliated with the Academy of Management, the Academy of International Business and Indianapolis' World Trade Club.
