Relocation
Whether you are considering relocating for a new job or simply for a fresh start in a new city, the more informed you are, the easier your transition will be. The internet has made it easier to find information and look for job and internships across the country - just be sure to expand your information search beyond CareerBuilder and Monster.
Cost of Living
Everything from rent to food can fluctuate in price from city to city. Before you accept a starting salary or begin planning your budget, take some time to visit the following sites for cost-of-living comparisons, neighborhood information, weather and more.
Alumni Networks
Reach out to alumni in the city that you are moving to or interested in moving to for advice. And once you get there, alumni clubs often have all types of activities and networking events where you can broaden your social circle and learn more about the city.
As a Kelley Indianapolis student, you have 3 alumni networks to make the most of:
- Kelley Alumni Association. Locate Kelley alumni around the globe - and search for local chapters in cities such as Chicago, New York, and San Francisco. View the Alumni Online Directory.
- Indiana University Alumni Association. Reach out to non-Kelley graduates across the country and internationally.
- IUPUI Alumni Relations
Social Networks
Alumni networks are not the only way to connect with individuals in other cities. Use your personal network of friends, family, and co-workers - and take full advantage of social networking sites.
You can search for friends, friends-of-friends, alumni, and other potential connections through Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and a host of smaller social networking sites. You're already a regular user, so take advantage of all the connections you have made as you plan your move and your career.
Job Boards
Expand your search using a host of job search engines. Some of the most effective national job boards include Oodle, Jobster, and Indeed.
However, don't ignore the smaller, more targeted job boards, as they often have jobs that will more closely match your interests. For a complete list, visit the Riley Guide - or check out our selected list with brief descriptions and reviews.
Don't forget about local Chambers of Commerce and local job boards. Some larger cities, including Chicago, have multiple local job boards. Check out our quick guide with tips and tricks for those looking to relocate to the Windy City:
