Beta Gamma Sigma
Beta Gamma Sigma is the national scholastic honor society in the field of business and administration recognized by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business. The purpose of Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and reward scholarship and accomplishment among students of business and administration, to promote the advancement of education in the art and science of business, and to foster integrity in the conduct of business operations.
Election to membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest scholastic honor that a student in business administration can earn, and new members elected from among the masters degree students must rank in the upper 20 percent of those receiving the degree during the same academic year.
Business Horizons
In January 1958, the Indiana University School of Business launched its own business journal. During the intervening years Business Horizons has won the solid respect of large numbers of business executives, academicians, and students who have come to depend upon it. The journal is catalogued and shelved in most of the major libraries around the world and is also mailed directly to some 5,000 other subscribers in the United States and abroad.
The principal editorial function of Business Horizons, which is now a bimonthly publication, is to bring to the business and academic community timely information about the analyses of important business-related topics. The editors strive to produce a publication that is midway between a news magazine and a highly esoteric "learned" journal. The articles are substantive. Some are practical; some are theoretical. Hopefully, all of them are useful. True to its name, Business Horizons , also emphasizes the future in its editorial policy. The editors look for topics with distant "horizon" dimensions.
Examination of any issue will reveal that the authors comprise quite a cross section of expertise. Some are prominent business executives or government officials; a few are students; a large number are professors or business consultants. The editors feel that this diversity of backgrounds, occupations, and points of view lends considerable strength to the editorial policy. Copies for review are available in the MBA Office.
Graduate Business Council (GBC)
GBC members meet monthly after class and are responsible for representing the MBA students to the faculty and Administration, Teaching Excellence Awards, social events, "class announcers" and various other student projects. Look for them on the 2nd Floor during "candy breaks." Your participation in this student group is encouraged.
Graduate Student Lounge
The Graduate Student Lounge is located in BS 3007 of the School of Business. The lounge remains open as long as the building is open to student traffic. The bulletin board in the lounge carries notices of campus activities and extracurricular events which may be of interest to all MBA candidates. Student mailboxes are located in the lounge.
MBA Student Mailboxes
Individual hanging files serve as mailboxes for all current MBA students and are located in the Graduate Student Lounge, BS 3007. The mailboxes are arranged in alphabetical order by cohort group. Although much of the communication to MBA students occurs on the electronic mail system, candidates are encouraged to check his or her mailbox on a regular basis. These mailboxes are used by the Graduate Office, the faculty, and other MBA students as a means of sharing information related to academics and the MBA program.
