Admissions
Students may apply to the program after completing a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or during their senior year of college. An undergraduate major in accounting or business is not a requirement. We encourage you to apply for admission as early as possible.
Admission Criteria and Evaluation
The evaluation of an admission application is primarily an appraisal of an applicant's capability to successfully pursue graduate work at Indiana University. This appraisal involves both a quantitative and qualitative assessment. In the qualitative phase, your letters of reference, any work experience and other elements of your resume are reviewed. The quantitative component assesses your academic credentials as based on your GPA and your score on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).
The GMAT is required for all MSA applicants. Foreign students not living in the U.S. must submit an acceptable GMAT score prior to admission. Other applicants who are residents (including foreign applicants) may be granted conditional acceptance for one semester during which they may take prerequisite and/or graduate coursework. However, students who receive conditional acceptance are not allowed to register for a second semester containing 500 level courses unless an acceptable GMAT score is received prior to the beginning of that semester.
If you would like to receive more information regarding the MSA program, please call 317-278-3885 or e-mail us at msabus@iupui.edu . If you would like to apply, you can complete the online application. You may also download the MSA Viewbook. The GMAT can now be taken on computer at any time during the year and scores are mailed about two weeks after testing. More information on the GMAT can be found on the Internet at http://www.gmat.org/ or by calling 317-257-7546 in Indianapolis or 1-800-462-8669. Note that you will need to submit an official transcript to the MSA office in Indianapolis from the registrar's office of each college or university you have attended. If you attended Indiana University, the MSA office will automatically obtain a copy of that transcript from the IU registrar.
Nondegree Seeking Students
The MSA program offers a variety of courses that may be of interest to nondegree seeking students. For example, graduate-level courses in accounting, tax, auditing, business law, business administration, and economics will count for continuing education credit if the individual obtains a C or better. Individuals are entitled to 15 CPE hours for each credit hour. Thus, a 3 hour course is 45 hours of CPE. There is no limit on the number of graduate courses that can be used.
Nondegree seeking students interested in taking MSA courses may do so with permission and without taking the GMAT. However, the number of courses that may be taken may be limited without application or admission to the program.
Application Deadlines
There are no deadlines for application to the program. Application may be made at any time prior to the beginning of the semester. However, we encourage prospective students apply early to ensure they can register for the desired classes and avoid possible late fees.
If you are ready to apply to the MSA program but have not yet taken the GMAT or all of your prerequisites, you may still apply (e.g., complete the application, order transcripts, request letters of reference). Let us know that you have not yet taken the GMAT or certain prerequisites but are planning to take the exam (indicate the approximate date if known) and the required courses in the immediate future. As noted above, foreign students not living in the U.S. must submit an acceptable GMAT score prior to admission. Other applicants who are U.S. residents may be granted conditional acceptance for one semester during which they may take prerequisite and/or graduate coursework. However, students who receive conditional acceptance are not allowed to register for a second semester containing 500 level courses unless an acceptable GMAT score is received prior to the beginning of that semester.
