Mark Frohlich
Associate Professor of Operations Management
"Leveraging Kelley's stature and reputation, we've been able to collaborate with many central Indiana businesses. Engaging so many students in real-world research with actual companies is something I haven't been able to accomplish at other institutions. It makes for a richer educational experience for them, and it's something I'm proud to facilitate."
With practical experience working in industry as both an operations and logistics manager and as a management consultant with Deloitte & Touche, Mark Frohlich brings a wealth of expertise to his current career in academia. His interest in supply chain management and logistics led him to Indiana - regionally, the "home base and ground zero for logistics management" - in 2006. After teaching assignments at the London Business School, Boston University's School of Management and Oxford University's Said Business School, Frohlich views Kelley Indianapolis as a good fit.
"In terms of my career and areas of interest, Kelley Indianapolis - located in the Midwest where there is lots of business activity - was a great move for me," says Frohlich. "One the one hand, Kelley is a top-rated business school; on the other, it offers great students to teach. As a professor, you want both areas to be exceptional."
Focusing primarily on operations strategy, process improvement, program management and supply chain integration, Frohlich says many of his areas of interest are currently under-researched, making the topics that much more interesting and exciting to pursue. His most significant current project involves developing powerful benchmark software to help companies more fully understand their supply chains. Among other features, the software allows supply chain partners to participate in joint surveys and to share information and data. Frohlich plans to offer companies - first, in Indiana and the U.S., and later other countries - access to the software.
"In addition to helping companies better benchmark their supply chains, the software also reinforces areas in which their chain is strong, and more importantly, identifies those areas that need improvement," Frohlich explains. "It also allows businesses to custom draw their supply chain."
