Transfer Evaluation

Transfer Credit/Transfer Credit Evaluations

We do not evaluate transfer credits. Transfer credits are evaluated through the admissions office at IUPUI. After having a transfer course evaluated at the admissions office, the student can fill out a course evaluation if the student wishes to have a past course count as a specific IUPUI course through our office.

When students transfer credit to IUPUI, there are three different ways the credit may appear on the transfer credit report. The following shows a course that has been transferred in as a specific course, ENG-W 131:

Transfer Term
Summer 2006
External (transferred) Course
ENG 101 (3 cr.), Grade: A
Equivalent Course/Subject
ENG W 131 (3 cr.), TA

Undistributed credit is credit that has been transferred but does not transfer in as a specific course meaning they only get credit hours, not credit for any particular course. The following is what undistributed credit looks like:

Transfer Term
Fall Semester 2000–2001
7
External (transferred) Course
BUS #305 (3 cr.), Grade: B
Equivalent Course/Subject
BUS–UN 300 (3 cr.), TB

If a course does not transfer and the student does not receive credit for the course it will appear as follows:

Transfer Term
Fall Semester
1
External (transferred) Course
BUS 101 (3 cr.), Grade: F
Equivalent Course/Subject
NTRN  NTRN, NT

If a student has undistributed transfer credit that they feel is equivalent to a specific business course, they can have the course evaluated by the Kelley faculty (courses from other departments should be evaluated by that department who will then notify our office of the decision). To have a course evaluated, the student must fill out the request for evaluation of transfer credit form. This form can also be picked up in the Kelley School of Business programs office in BS 3024.

The student will need to submit the request form along with the original course syllabus. Students can also include any other information that would help evaluate the course such as a course description, textbook, course notes, tests, etc. Once this information has been submitted to the programs office, it will be sent to faculty who teach the subject material being evaluated. The student will be notified by mail of the decision. The decision will be recorded in the Access and SSI databases for record keeping purposes. If the evaluation is approved, the recorder will make the substitution on the students degree audit. Only Business faculty can evaluate undistributed business courses. Evaluation can sometimes take up to one month or more, so students should take care of this as soon as possible.

Please note: Courses that are not accepted as transfer credit by the IUPUI Office of Admissions will not be evaluated by the Kelley School of Business.
