Student Teaching Evaluations

The student evaluation task force has set a goal of raising awareness of the importance of teaching evaluations in the Kelley School of Business. We believe that there may be a degree of misunderstanding between students and faculty regarding the significance of these evaluations. Students may feel that teaching evaluations are not taken seriously. Faculty members may wonder to what extent the evaluations measure student satisfaction or student learning.
To help define the specific attitudes of both the students and faculty members, the members of the task for designed two questionnaires under the guidance of a Kelley faculty member well versed in research. These questionnaires ask participants to rate their agreement with statements regarding the attitudes of students and faculty towards the student teaching evaluations. Currently, we have surveyed the Kelley faculty and Kelley students will be surveyed in February 2006.
Once the student version is completed, a report will be available detailing the findings related to faculty and student attitudes and the differences between the two. Upon obtaining the results, the Director's Advisory Board will move forward with a campaign to increase awareness and support for effectively completing the student teaching evaluations for each and every class.
